Total Solar Eclipse & Stargazing Retreat 2027

Four Days. Dark Skies. One Extraordinary Morning.

31 July – 3 August 2027

Finca Ará Oko · Las Alpujarras, Granada, Spain

Looking for accommodation for the 2027 total solar eclipse in southern Spain?

Finca Ará Oko offers three nights’ accommodation in the mountains of southern Granada from 31 July–3 August 2027, with full board and organised transport to our eclipse-viewing location on the Mediterranean coast.

On 2 August 2027, a total solar eclipse will cross southern Spain — one of the great astronomical events of our lifetime.

Join us for a small, relaxed four-day retreat at Finca Ará Oko, our remote off-grid home high in the mountains of Granada.

We’ll spend warm summer evenings beneath exceptionally dark skies, looking for meteors and exploring the night sky with our telescope. On the morning of the eclipse, we’ll travel together to the Mediterranean coast to watch the sunrise, share breakfast on the beach and experience the Sun disappearing completely behind the Moon.

This isn’t an astronomy course. It’s an opportunity to slow down, spend a few days somewhere beautiful and experience something extraordinary together.

Places are limited to approximately 12 guests.

The Total Solar Eclipse

On the morning of Monday 2 August 2027, we’ll leave the finca early and travel down through the mountains to La Rábita, on the Mediterranean coast and within the path of totality.

We’ll arrive in time to watch the sun rise and enjoy breakfast together on the beach.

The partial eclipse begins at approximately 9:43 am, as the Moon gradually moves across the face of the Sun.

Then, at around 10:50 am, day briefly becomes night.

La Rábita is expected to experience approximately 1 minute 51 seconds of totality — the extraordinary period when the Sun is completely obscured by the Moon and its corona becomes visible.

Eclipse glasses will be provided.

Dark Skies at 1,250 Metres

Finca Ará Oko sits at approximately 1,250 metres above sea level, surrounded by mountains and countryside and far from the light pollution of large towns and cities.

Night sky on a moonless night at Finca Ara Oko

Our remote, low-light location gives us wonderfully dark skies and makes the finca a beautiful place for stargazing.

After dinner, we’ll spend our evenings outside beneath the stars, using our telescope when conditions allow and keeping an eye out for shooting stars.

Our dates fall during the active period of the Southern Delta Aquariid meteor shower, while the Perseids will already be building towards their August peak.

There are no formal astronomy classes or lectures. Stargazing is simply part of the experience of spending a few summer nights at the finca.

The Retreat

Saturday 31 July — Arrival

Arrive during the afternoon and settle into life at the finca.

There will be time to explore, dip in the pool or simply relax after your journey.

In the evening, we’ll share our first meal together as the sun goes down, followed by our first night beneath the stars.

Sunday 1 August — A Day at the Finca

A slow day to enjoy the surroundings. Swim, walk, read, rest or find somewhere shady and enjoy being in the mountains.

We’ll also talk through what to expect during the following morning’s eclipse and how to view it safely.

After dinner we’ll head outside for stargazing, telescope viewing and meteor watching.

Monday 2 August — Totality

We’ll leave the finca early for La Rábita, where we’ll watch the sunrise and enjoy breakfast on the beach before the eclipse begins.

Following totality, we’ll spend a little more time beside the sea before returning to the finca.

The afternoon is deliberately free — time to relax and absorb what we’ve just experienced.

That evening we’ll share a special final dinner together, followed by one last night beneath the stars.

Tuesday 3 August — Departure

Breakfast together followed by departures.

Finca Ará Oko

Finca Ará Oko is our remote, off-grid mountain home in the Alpujarras of southern Granada, looking out across a rugged landscape towards the Mediterranean.

Life here is simple and informal. There is a small plunge pool, terraces and outdoor spaces for eating and relaxing, and plenty of places to disappear with a book or simply enjoy the silence.

Being off-grid means living a little differently. Our electricity comes from solar power and our water and other resources are used thoughtfully.

This is not a hotel. It is our home, and during the retreat we invite a small group of guests to share it with us.

Accommodation

We offer a mixture of private rooms, shared rooms and beautiful glamping accommodation. Maximum of approximately 12 guests.

Glamping

Our two spacious glamping tents offer a particularly lovely way to experience summer at the finca.

Each tent is comfortably furnished with 360-degree mosquito netting, allowing the lower canvas to be opened while remaining protected. They are positioned in naturally shaded areas and stay cool until well into the morning.

Each tent normally accommodates two people. Guests have access to shared indoor bathroom facilities as well as our outdoor shower.

Sole occupancy may occasionally be available on request.

Shared Rooms

We have a small number of twin and double rooms suitable for friends, couples or guests happy to share. Bathroom facilities vary according to the room.
